Price Upon Request
  • Description
An important and rare firemark from the collection of Milton Celsnick of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia. In 1752 Benjamin Franklin and his fellow firefighters founded The Philadelphia Contributionship, the nation's oldest successful property insurance company. The company was formed as a mutual insurance company where the policyholders banded together to share the risks. Insurance provided a safety net for Philadelphians where fires did occur. The company is still in existence today. This firemark represents the identification of a policyholder's house during the company's earliest years.
