Description George Platt Lynes was an Important and Iconic early to mid Twentieth Century fashion photographer and a trail blazer in the male nude. Most of George's male nude photo negatives were beqeathed by him to his friend Alfred Kinsey and remain in The Kinsey institute. He knew and was known by some of the most important cultural and societal figures in America of his time, many of whom he called friends, including Jared French whose painting "Elemental Play" this needlepoint is a copy of. George was known to do needlework for relaxation which is mentioned in Rizzoli's book "George Platt Lynes, Male Nudes". I acquired this work from John Wisner who was a good friend of George's in the 1940's/ 50's, and who acquired from George to settle a debt in the late 1940's. It was originally made into a cushion and used in John's house in Long Island.
