INDIAN DHURRIE DESIGNED HANDWOVEN COTTON RUG
-
Description
Dhurrie rugs are deeply rooted in Indian tradition. These wonderful textiles have always transcended social boundaries by serving in homes of poor and wealthy alike.
This rug was made in accordance with the centuries-old techniques in order for it to comprise all the special features of antique Dhurrie rugs. Carefully hand-woven of the finest cotton in a distinct weave, the fabric is thick yet light, easy to carry and undemanding in terms of maintenance. Moreover, its structure is practically impenetrable to silverfish and other insects responsible for destroying carpets. If properly maintained, the modern rug will withstand years of usage without any signs of wear.
Next to impeccable workmanship, the Indian Dhurrie boasts a classic design of stripes. The combination of blue and off-white is extremely typical of Indian art as the country is the world capital of indigo – the famous natural blue dye deriving from the indigofera tinctoria plant. - More Information

Founded in 1965, Doris Leslie Blau’s rug emporium is the stuff of design legends. For decades it was known as the go-to source for those seeking the best in the unusual antique and avant-garde. Now owned by Nader Bolour, to whom Doris turned over the business, the gallery has not only continued the tradition of carrying the best of antique and vintage pieces, but has also forged ahead to create unique and innovative contemporary and custom rugs as well.
