A vintage Persian Tabriz carpet. The design is totally adapted from Caucasian Kuba soumac carpets, but instead of a red field, here is a buff ground with three octogramme medallions in blue-grey. The smaller octagons and lesser scatter fill devices are essentially the same, as is the border but instead of a zig zag our carpet shows a lozenge chain with inset diamonds. Tabriz interwar carpets such as this draw on design sources from all over the rug world.
