Vintage Turkish Sivas Carpet

$ 75,000
  • Description
    This antique Turkish Sivas rug presents an intriguing tableau of floral motifs, arabesques and geometric abstractions in shades of light brown and inky blue against a field of salmon. A traditional main border with floral patterns completes the rich design. Staple patterns of Oriental rug weaving, such as the boteh, can be noted throughout the antique carpets. A paisley shape typically representing a leaf or a pinecone, the boteh is associated with symbolism of life and eternity. Decorative antique carpets from Sivas, in the southeast of Turkey in central Anatolia, are finely woven and formal, tending to interpret the classical Persian style with central medallions and floral infill. A palette of soft and pale gelato tones in the typical antique Sivas rug makes it more feminine than other any other antique Turkish carpets .

Founded in 1965, Doris Leslie Blau’s rug emporium is the stuff of design legends. For decades it was known as the go-to source for those seeking the best in the unusual antique and avant-garde. Now owned by Nader Bolour, to whom Doris turned over the business, the gallery has not only continued the tradition of carrying the best of antique and vintage pieces, but has also forged ahead to create unique and innovative contemporary and custom rugs as well.
