Chinese Silk coat with Embroidery Design

Creation Date early 20th century
Description A woman's coat imade of black silk with wide sleeves from Chinese late Qing to the Republic era (1900-1930s), professionally mounted and presented on black linen board as a textile art. The coat features white silk bands on the sleeves, neck and skirt bands all scrolling floral embroidery. The back of the robe showcases three finely embroidered roundels in which a fairy lady was depicted playing Zheng, an instrument by a landscaped pavilion. Interspersed evenly, there are flower baskets with flowing ribbons with varied designs, traditional symbols of youth and prosperity. Flanking the coat, there are two additional cutout roundels in square openings with golden trim, presumably taken from the front of the robe. Professionally and artistically displayedin a new shadow box frame for an bespoken interior.
