Description A large and stunning piece of textile art from Japan Meiji period (1868-1912), nicely presented in a giltwood frame. The textile panel depicts a flock of birds perching on a willow tree. The realistic style and poetic composition is a typical derivative of Chinese "flower and bird" style painting that found its popularity in nearly all Japanese art medium, from painting, to woodblock, ceramic and textile art. The piece has a very distinguished golden tone-on-tone palette. On a patterned brocade background, the willow tree with weeping branches and leaves was embroidered with a golden thread in high relief. Birds in colors ranging from white to dark golden, were positioned perching on the branches or the ground. The Fine needlework boasts a superb craftsmanship and this is especially evident on the detail rendering of the bird feathers and the motions of the willow branches in the wind. The tone-on-tone golden color palette displays a subtle variations of shades and exhibits an overall shimmering luxurious effect. A very refined and eye-catching piece. Without frame it measures 65.5" H x 40" W. With frame it is 76" Hx 51" W.
