Description European carpets and rugs, admired since times immemorial, are known for their conservative designs, inspired by the centuries of tradition. However, this one rebels against the norms and shocks with its one of a kind composition. Inspired by Oriental motifs, the antique rug sports a flowery pattern, consisting of a beautiful lily in the middle surrounded by the circle of star-like blossoms.

Art Nouveau composition such as this one could be easily seen as the background of one of Alphone Mucha’s paintings. Indeed, this vintage carpet is more of a piece of art than a floor covering! The weaver decided to use mainly shades of violet, highlighted by occasional hint of yellow, brown and blue. The colors work together perfectly, making the pattern even more beautiful than it already is. You won’t find any other piece which contains not only a revolutionary approach to design but also Austrian sense of aesthetics.
