Description
ARTISAN: B.C. Milburn (fl. 1841-1867)
ORIGIN: Alexandria, Virginia
COMMENTARY: This storage jar has ambitiously designed ornament consisting of slip-trailed cobalt blue in a series of flowers on the front and back as well as a double meander just beneath the rim. The crisp trails of blue form a lively contrast to the bright gray background.
MARKS: Stamped "B.C. Milburn, Alex” on the front below rim -

Origin: United States, Virginia Period: 19th Century Materials: Salt-glazed stoneware with cobalt ornamentation. Condition: Good. The vessel survives in good condition with expected wear. One handle has a signifiant chip along the outer edge and minuscule firing cracks are scattered through the glaze. A detailed condition report is available upon request.
