Antique Russian glass and enamel vodka drinking set
Russian, Late 19th Century
Decanter: Height 18cm, diameter 11.5cm
Glasses: Height 5cm, diameter 4cm

This humorous Russian antique vodka drinking set comprises six glass tumblers and one glass decanter. The decanter is of a bulbous shape, surmounted by a cut glass finial. The set is decorated all over with enameled geometric patterns in primary colours and gold, and each piece is inscribed with drinking sayings in Cyrillic.

The sayings translate as:
'The best is to drink water which has been transformed into vodka'
'Alcohol paints your heart and face red'
'Drinking a lot will not bring you anything good'
'For your health!'
'You want to or not - you need to drink with us!'
'Not to drink means not to like your host!'
'Let's drink another one!'
