  • Description
Chinese Export Porcelain Rare Blue & White Herring Dish,
    Circa 1765

A Chinese dish is illustrated in Uit Verre Streken, November 2018, no. 42.

Dr. Christian J.A. Jorg reports that in 1773 the Dutch East India Company’s “Requirements” included a narrow dish for one herring and a wider version for two (Porcelain of the Dutch China Trade, p. 179.) A rare “two-fish” dish is in the Geemeente Museum, The Hague (illustrated by T. Volker, De Chinese Porselein Kast, cat. no. 238)
