Description
Large antique glass and silvered bronze centrepiece bowl by Christofle
French, 19th Century
Height 20cm, width 54cm, depth 25cm
This superb centrepiece bowl is crafted by Christofle and is adorned with charming putti and nature-inspired features. Founded in 1830 by Charles Christofle (d. 1863), the firm specialised in the creation of silver-plate objects crafting pieces for an elite clientele.
The elongated glass bowl with a shaped rim tops the ornate silvered bronze base. The piece stands on branch-shaped feet adorned with a garland of apples and leaves. Flanking the bowl are cherubs, each one with a look of amazement and wonder as they carefully observe the birds sitting on their hands.
The centrepiece bowl can be displayed empty or filled with fruits, making it both a decorative and functional home décor addition.
