Condition Good. Nice overall with minor surface wear due to the age, there are five minute dings scattered on the edge and corner with some possible with touch up, as shown in the closeup photos.

Description A pair of Japanese lacquer trays in square from with upturned edges and small corner feet. They are delicately decorated with Maki-e with nashiji gold sprinkled on black background. The Maki-e depicts two idyllic scenery: huts among wooded landscape by the margin of the water; One with a fisherman on a boat. The techniques of Hiramakie (low relief) contrasts nicely with Takamakie (high-relief) to create a visually dimensional surface. These service trays were of high quality and even the bottom surface was equally decorated with nashiji gold. They are dated to late Meiji to Taisho period circa 1910-20s.
