Georgian Sampler,1769, by Anne Duchemin 10yrs Old. The sampler is worked in silk on a linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering strawberry border. Colours pink, green, pale blue, silver, black, dark brown and gold. Three rows of alphabets A-Z in upper case. Verse reads, 'All Youth set Right at First, with ease go on, And Each new Task, Is with new pleasure Done, But if neglected, Till they Grow in years, And each Fond mother, Her Dear Darling spares, Error Becomes Habbitual, And you'll find, Tis Then Hard Labour, To unbend The mind'.. Signed and dated, 'Ann Duchemin in The Tenth year Of Her Age 1769'. A good set of motifs, including fir trees, birds, potted flowering plants, stags, fruit baskets, squirrels, blossoming trees, flowers and rabbits. Framed in an old, possibly original, Hogarth frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with wood and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Origin: England Period: 18th Century Condition: Good. Good. A few small holes. Patch of very light discoloration to the backing on top right edge and on left middle edge. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear.
