Description
Well made Black Mink hat designed and sold by I. Magnin & Company in the mid 1960’s. The style, undoubtedly worn and made popular by Julie Christie in the movie “Dr. Zhivago”. I. Magnin & Company was a San Francisco, California-based high fashion and specialty goods luxury department store that was founded in 1876, and specialized in high end fine quality clothing catering to an exclusive clientele. The entire exterior and interior lower border is lined in quality mink, while the felt interior with a velvet hat band displays the “I, Magnin” label and the front has an attached (sewn in) comb to keep the hat in place (see image). There is a stylish step back pleat around the hat about halfway down. The hat is in excellent condition and has minimal (if any) wear.
The size is a Lady’s small (interior well is about 6 1/4″ all around).

We are specialists in the field of antique mechanical coin banks. These rare and unique items were sold during the late 1800's and early 1900's to encourage and educate young children on the importance of saving money, with the majority of them having been made in America. We are leading experts in this field and one of the foremost dealers, having traded in mechanical banks since 1976.
