Description
Double sided antique sampler, 1784, of continental European origin. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours brown, cream, blue, yellow, green, pink, black and grey. Alphabets A-Z in upper case, numbers 1-10, and family initials. Signed and dated 'IDR DGS 1784'. A good set of motifs, including angels, a boat with a boy and dog in, lions, birds, flowers, fruit baskets, crowns, swan, an animal with flag, and peacocks. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass to the front and reverse - the sampler can be viewed from both sides. Stitched to a wood stretcher frame, in a way in which both sides of the sampler are fully visible.
