1834 Sampler by Ann Jones. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colors pink, green, dark brown, copper, white, pale blue and cream. Verse reads, 'Dear Mother I am young and cannot show. Such work as I into your goodness owe. Be pleased to smile upon my small endeavours. I'll strive to learn and be obedient ever.'. Signed and dated, 'Ann Jones her Work December 13th 1834'. A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a lady and a gentleman and child, stars, birds, angels, flowers, potted flowering plants, stags, trees, crowns, a parrot and dogs. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounting: The sampler is tacked onto a wooden mounting frame. Frame backed with chipboard.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
