Condition Good. Good. A couple of very small holes. A couple of patchy stains. No stitch losses. Colours are good and bright. No colour run. Slightly unevenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
Creation Date 1797
Description Darning Sampler, circa 1797. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Colours green, pink and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-22. No signature or date. A wonderful set of darning panels, finely embroidered. Crowns at the bottom with initials. Framed in an old, possibly original, mahogany frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is stitched to board. Frame backed with wooden board. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
