Description
A pair of two antique textile fragments from China, circa 19th century Qing dynasty, professionally displayed in matching giltwood frame. On a light indigo blue linen background, one-piece depicts a flower branch, the other a cluster of peaches. These lovely embroideries were handmade with silk threads of different colors. Originally they adorned the "patch work" robe, worn by actors for opera performance.
Provenance: Purchased from Norton's Oriental Galleries in Newport, Rhode Island. Fully labeled with note on the back as shown. -
