This Hopi canteen is fascinating to me. With a black on buff exterior and red clay interior and classic Polacca crazing, it is clearly eccentric. I wonder if the abstracted linear design is referring to clown images, which were commonly used at that time? In any event, this miniature canteen has a powerful visual effect.
The back side of the canteen has a large painted red circle.
We have a custom-made stand made for this canteen that is not shown in the image. -
