Description
Knife sheaths were carried by most Native Americans in the 18th and 19th century. Glass beads during these periods were acquired in trade with adventurers and travelers and were sewn onto hide by Native American women.
This beaded knife sheath has a very interesting and unusual notch in its design, probably so that the knife sheath would rest on the man’s belt. It was made during the early Reservation Period when the Indians were adapting to the Anglo culture they were now living amidst. This is the only knife sheath I have seen with this design feature. -
