Description
This original graphic art lithographic poster entitled "Chez Panisse Restaurant and Cafe" was created by David Lance Goines in 1989 in his Berkeley studio. It depicts a bouquet of flowers in a vase. The poster was created to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the opening of the famous Berkeley gourmet restaurant by its iconic founder Alice Waters. Goines' name and 1989, the year of the poster's creation, are printed to the left of the vase.
The poster was printed in 13 colors in an edition of 1795, of which 300 copies are signed.
This original limited edition poster measures 24" high x 17" wide. There are subtle creases in the upper portion if the poster, but it is otherwise in excellent condition.
David Lance Goines (1945-) is an American graphic artist, calligrapher, typographer, printing entrepreneur, and author. His work is held by many museums and institutions, including: The Smithsonian Institution's American Art Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Louvre in Paris and The Library of Congress.
After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Goines started his career as a printer’s apprentice. He soon founded the Saint Hieronymous Press in Berkeley, where he still works. He has created many advertising posters, but as a political activist, he has also designed posters in support of social causes and organizations. Goines is involved in all phases of the production of his graphic arts, from the design and production of ink colors to the final printing process. Goines’s illustrative graphic approach incorporates some of the features of the famous 19th and early 20th century graphic artists, with his own unique and instantly recognizable style. -

Timeless Intaglio is an online gallery of rare and collectable antiquarian prints, maps and books. Although we specialize in all forms of vintage printed works on paper, the majority were created with the intaglio method of transferring ink from a plate, usually copper, to paper with a technique utilizing pressure generated by a press.
