General George Washington Wax Portrait Shadow Box Framed Display & Artist Signed "G. Rouse".

G. Rouse is reported to have forged this and others like it in London circa 1924. There is no reason to believe that there ever was an artist of this name, according to "Wall, 'Wax Portraiture,' 22-24; Bolton, American Wax Portraits, 60."

Even though this is a known forgery, it's counterparts are on sale for thousands of dollars through out the world or coveted in museums. This is a rare opportunity to purchase one of these forgeries at a good price.

Decorative General George Washington Wax Portrait, Wearing His Military Uniform, Signed in wax by the Artist, "G. Rouse Sclp", Period Shadow Box Display Framed.

This "G. Rouse" artist Signed impressive Wax Portrait figure is titled, "Gen. George Washington 1797" within the wax.

This example is perhaps the finest one we have seen.

It measures 8" x 10" and housed in a 12" x 14" period shadow box black painted wooden frame under glass.

The white Wax High-Relief Bust Portrait of General George Washington is displayed looking left wearing his Continental Army military uniform with his hair tied with a ribbon.

The artist has clearly Hand-Signed "G. Rouse, Sclp" below the bust in the wax, "General George Washington 1797".

The detail shows the delicacy of detail, including his shirt ruffles and ribbon that adorns the General Washington's wig.

There is a crack extending through the lower right-hand corner of the tablet.

Wax portraits were quite popular to display in tribute and commemoration of noted figures of the period.

This example having excellent details and a wonderful overall appearance. A museum quality display piece.
