Painting: Height 130cm, width 94cm
The allegorical painting depicts two of the five senses: Sound and Taste. Sound is presented as a female figure, draped in robes and holding a tambourine in her raised left hand. She has a cherub by her side, who is seated on a garland of flowers and playing the bagpipes. This painting is decorated with a further garland of flowers to the upper left corner and flowers below.
Taste is presented as a male figure, also draped in robes, holding a glass of wine in his right hand and a sceptre in his left. Again, in front of him a cherub is shown holding a garland of flowers in his raised left hand and a jug in his lowered right hand. There is a further garland of flowers to the upper right corner, a vine with grapes through the centre and flowers below. The painting is signed lower right 'G. Cornicelius' and set within a ornate carved giltwood frame.
