Giovan Francesco Gonzaga (Milan 1921 - 2007) is a descendant of the Gonzaga family of Mantua. His noble origins can be traced throughout his artistic production. Gonzaga's favorite subjects are in fact horses, riders and soldiers, as well as landscapes, portraits and still lifes. He studied Leonardo and Michelangelo attending the Castello Sforzesco and at the age of 20 he left for the Russian Campaign with the Savoia Cavalleria. This experience remains strongly etched in the artist's mind, influencing his production; his inseparable horse will in fact be the protagonist of countless paintings, sculptures, poems. He uses classical techniques to create his works: oil, tempera, pencil and watercolor. He dedicates his life to painting and illustrates some literary works including "The Odyssey", "Book Heart" and "Moses".
