Born into a well known family of artists from the Piedmont region of Italy, Giovanni Antonio Galliari was the son of the patriarch, Giovanni Galliari the Elder, who worked throughout the Piedmont and Lombardy as a court painter and scenographer. Giovanni Antonio Galliari created Baroque and Rococo set designs and interior fresco decorations for courts throughout Europe. His drawings, finely drafted in pen and ink with wash, are usually preparatory works for his elaborate set designs. -
