Description This unique creation by Irving Harper is constructed entirely out of paper and mounted on a Birch Frame. Harper, one of the foremost Mid-Century Modern designers, was the design director for George Nelson and created some of the 20th century's most iconic pieces for Nelson's studio. In his spare time, he created whimsical sculptures made entirely from paper, which populated his home until his death in his late 1990s.

His work was inspired by weekend trips to the Met, where he would absorb eclectic styles and return to his Rye, NY home to create his pieces with no advanced planning. His pieces range a number of styles, from cubism to abstract expressionism, to op-art, to tribalism and more. In his lifetime, he created approximately 400 sculptures.

This piece is reminiscent of a Mondrian in its shape, but softer in color, using a palate of pastels. The piece is three dimensional, with interesting movement as you move from left to right around the piece. Small marks of Harper's handicraft can still be seen on the piece.
