Description
Mary Purser, 1913 - 1986 was an American painter. She is best known for her New Deal-era mural in the Clarksville, Arkansas Post Office. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago, earned a B.A. from the University of Mississippi and an MFA from the University of Florida, and taught at the University of Chatanooga. In 1939 Purser completed the oil-on-canvas mural How Happy Was the Occasion for the Clarksville, Arkansas Post Office.
