Rare antique funeral mourning sash made for President Abraham Lincoln. The sash is made black fabric that has turned to a dark brown color. The ash is 2.5"x35" and has 240 brass buttons with the image of Abraham Lincoln stamped into the brass button. I have found several single buttons over the last 30 years selling for around $300 each as a souvenir of one of Lincoln 21 funerals. He was transported by train back to Springfield. He stopped in around 21 cities along the route. At each stop he was removed from the train transported by procession to the town hall or Capital building for viewing. Tens of thousands of people lined the route to get a glimpse of his coffin or him lying in state in whatever building he was on display. Quite a business was instantly created in each town by entrapaours to sell relics and souvenirs to all the on-lookers paying homage to the dead President. A big business was created by saving the black decorations on the train and building. Everyone wanted a piece of something to remember the event. These brass buttons were a premium prized souvenir of the historic event. To find 240 of the brass buttons stamped with Lincolns image is quite unheard of. This sash would have been the most impressive relic anyone possessed. If you priced them individually at $300 x 240 that would equal $72,000 Even at $200 that equals $48,000 So my price is quite a good deal for any buyer who is interested in historical Presidential objects. As Lincoln is considered one of the most popular Presidents only beat out by George....
