    A pair of Spanish Colonial gilt and polychromed altar piece figures of (presumably) San Juan de la Cruz and Santa Teresa de Avila. Mexican, ca late 18th C. Later date overpaint removed to reveal original gilt undercoat "estofado". Mainstays of the Carmelite reform, San Juan and Santa Teresa are often represented jointly as the epitome of Catholic mysticism.
