Albert Ludovici Jnr. studied at the Académie Charles and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris under Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). Ludovici’s paintings of fashionable London society around the turn of the century are a sympathetic blend of French Naturalism and Impressionism. His interior scenes are often characterised by areas of unpopulated space as much as their finely painted figures, a device seen in the work of of Sir William Orchardson (1832-1910) and Ludovici’s great friend James Abbott McNeill Whistler RBA (1834-1903), whose muted palette he also adopted.

Ludovici exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1880, as well as the Paris Salon and the Royal Society of British Artists where he was elected a member.
