Pair of Orientalist watercolour paintings of desert landscapes by A. Lamplough
English, c.1910
Frames: height 35cm, width 72cm, depth 3cm
Paintings: height 23cm, width 60cm
By a talented English artist active around the turn of the twentieth century, these beautiful watercolour paintings were executed c.1910 by Augustus Osborne Lamplough and show an almost symmetrical pair of minimalist, tranquil, yet ethereal views of a North African desert landscape.
Formerly a painter of Venetian cityscapes and palatial interiors, Lamplough turned his hand to the Orientalist style, and became known for works such as these, where he captured the desert around the hours of dawn and dusk, allowing the rich red tones of the sky to replicate the warmth and glow of North African landscape.
Wonderful decorative and artistic works, they exhibit fine artistic qualities, and great taste and style for those interested in the Orientalist movement; watercolour on paper in giltwood frames, signed and inscribed lower left and lower right.
