Description Born in Illinois in 1913, Charles Vickery was known for his seascapes and marine paintings that expressed his reverence for and deep connection to the ocean. He studied at both the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Fine Art and is widely admired for his ability to capture the essence, grandeur, and spirit of the ocean and its coasts.
“Windy Day” is an excellent example of his talent for portraying the motion and energy of the water, and the influence of the weather and changing tides. This large-scale work also shows his fascination with the relationship between light and water, and the effect of the color of the sky on the surface.
