Description A stack of vintage letters, stamped and worn by time are rendered in a skillful realism by Ciba Karisik. In an age of digital communication, the hand-written letter 'scripsit' or 'written by' and sent round the world reminds us of how much has changed. In addition to his use of a skillful trompe l'oeil (fool the eye) technique, the artist has heightened the importance of the subject through compositional chiaroscuro, strong tonal contrasts between light an dark. Additional paintings in the Scripsit series are available for pairing. Ciba Karisik was born in Sarajevo in 1959. As a grandson of two artists, he revealed his creative inheritance at an early age. Invited to attend the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Art, Karisik completed his Bachelor and then his Master’s Degree in painting in 1985. He was an established artist, when war erupted in Bosnia in 1992 that eventually forced him to abandon his homeland to immigrate with his family to Canada. Since 1996, Karisik has produced a steady body of work exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions every year. His paintings are in private and corporate collections in Canada, the US, England and Europe.
