Condition Good. Fine antique condition with surface patina and wear in keeping with the age, not examine out of the frame.
Creation Date 1830s
Description Framed Japanese landscape painting circa 1830s, the late Edo Period, possibly a panel from an antique floor screen. The painting was executed in the Rimpa style, depicting a tranquil forest scene with two towering magnolia trees in duel color blossoms by a rocky waterfall. It sprays splash the single bird perching on a boulder in the foreground. The background was squared gold foil leaf that aged into a mellow patina. The painting with mounted in a brocade backing and framed with Japanese paper backing. It measures 42.5"h x 19.5"w (sight) and 43.75"h x 21" (with frame).
Provenance: purchased in January 1969 from Yama Shop, Miyanoshita, Hanoke, Japan. It was indicated on the receipt that the painting was at least 130 years old at the time of purchasing. Hand-written receipt and custom shipping paperwork attached on the back as shown.
