Framed watercolour of 15 metre class yachts

Sold Sold
  • Description
Framed watercolour of 15 metre class yachts racing in the solent, with Sonya leading the fleet. Signed J James.

The international 15 metre class yacht Sonya was designed by Herreshoff for Mrs Turner-Farley of Cornwall and competed against such yachts as Oyana, Maumon, Britomat and the Alfred Milne designed Ma'Oona and these may well be among the other yachts depicted in this painting.

The class was one of those that made up the 'Big Racing yachts' of the period and were designed by the leading names of the period such as Milne, Erreshoff, Nicholson and Watson.
