Description Born in Washington, D.C., Henry Hobart Nichols, Jr. first studied art at Shortledge College in Pennsylvania and then at the Art Students League in New York. Nichols later traveled to Europe and studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, as well as the Froebel Institute in Germany.

Nichols was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design (NAD) in 1912, and was president of NAD from 1939 to 1949. He was a member of the Salamagundi Club, American Watercolor Society, National Arts Club, New York Watercolor Club, and several other societies. His works can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery, Phillips Collection, Newark Museum, and the National Academy Design Museum.
