Description | Marine and landscape painter James Webb was born in Chelsea around 1825. He studied at South Kensington. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1853 to 1888, and at the British Institution, the Suffolk Street Gallery, the New Watercolor Society and the Grosvenor Gallery. Webb mainly worked in England, but his exhibition records include scenes of Wales, Scotland, Holland, France and views along the Rhine. He died in London in 1895. Webb's paintings are in the Tate Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, both in London, the National Gallery in Sidney, Australia, the Montreal Art Association, Canada, and many provincial galleries throughout the British Isles. |
