JOHN BUNYON BRISTOL (1826-1909)
Lived/Active: New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire
Summer Landscape, ca. 1870

Oil on canvas.
Lined, very minor in-painting in isolated areas of the sky.
Provenance: Private collection, Trisdonn Gallery, New York, 1983.
Dimensions: 30” x 40”, 36” x 46” with frame.
Born in the Hudson Valley, Bristol was best known for his landscape painting. Although primarily self-taught he became an accomplished painter with a wonderful luminist quality to his work as seen in this landscape painting. As a National Academy artist Bristol participated in exposition both here and abroad winning several prizes and medals for his work. -
