Wild Heliotrope

  • Description
We are fortunate and honored to present “Wild Heliotrope”, a truly exceptional, top-quality masterpiece by one of Southern California's premier early Impressionists, John Marshall Gamble. This well known artist is best known for his idyllic plein-air landscape paintings. Scenes such as this one that are set in Santa Barbara and present quiet pastoral views of the countryside with fields of wildflowers are especially sought after by collectors.

This fine example of this influential artist's work showcases the vibrant, richly colored fragrant purple flowers of a plant that is aptly named for its tendency to turn toward the sun. The foreground's bluish-violet flowers and emerald green rolling hills feature rich, deeply saturated colors. The composition is perfectly balanced, creating a tranquil and harmonious mood. Gamble's superb technical skills are highlighted in his handling of light and atmospheric effects, one of the most important aspects of the Impressionist genre.
