Description
Katherine Parker explores themes of memory, place, and time in her highly textured, expressionistic paintings. Her large works are marked by layers of scumbled oil paint, which she abrades to reveal underlying layers whose texture mimics her perception of memory. She describes her artistic process as personal and contemplative, often involving the excavation of hidden memories. “In real time, we try to fix things, but they can’t be fixed, try to hold things, but that can’t be held,” she says. Parker, who studied with Milton Resnick and Louise Fishman, has been associated with abstract expressionism, although she often focuses on obscured landscapes rather than pure abstracted forms.
