Description Dabo enjoyed widespread acclaim in a career that stretched nearly a century. He was one of the primary students of Whistler and his work was a “virtual international style by 1910." He was an artist "who created works of decorative and spiritual abstraction that became icons of their age.” (David Cleveland, A History of American Tonalism).

Dabo's importance in American art can be summed up by two of the exhibitions he participated in early in his career. These two exhibitions would change the course of American art forever: the 1910 Exhibition of Independent Artists organized by 'The Eight' and the storied 1913 'Armory Show' in New York, for which he was an organizer and participant.

Dabo is known especially for his early tonalist landscapes, sublime orientalist florals and later colorful explorations of the French countryside of which this is an example.

Dabo’s work is owned by just about every major museum--Met, MOMA, Musee d'Orsay, Jeu d'Paume, Brooklyn Museum, Montclair Museum, etc. Dabo’s work is featured prominently in the definitive work on American Tonalism by Cleveland.
