Description Morris Kantor was an American painter known for his explorations across styles. His work could not easily be categorized because it was constantly in motion, developing from the early American cubism of his beginnings to the romantic surrealism of his, later works. Writing on the occasion of the artist's 1971 exhibition at the Bertha Shaefer Gallery, Hilton Kramer, art critic of The New York Times, said of him:

“Mr: Kantor has long been a figure of special importance. He has been a painter on the New York scene for half a century, going his own way, joining no bandwagons, doing what he felt impelled to do--a painter who has remained loyal, above all, to the dictates of his own sensibility. And what a sensibility it is. For sheer delicacy and refinement of perception combined with an easy, inward intelligence about the craft of painting, there is nothing like it.”

His works are held by the Met, the MOMA, Smithsonian, Hirshhorn , Whitney, Chicago Institute of Art and the PAFA, among others.
