Description Very early Nahum Tschacbasov oil on canvas painting of flowers in a blue vase is a heavy impasto paint. Tschacbasov painted very few floral paintings in a career that lasted over 50 years. Here you can see the influence of one of his earliest teachers in France, especially in the dark background color, Georges Rouault.
The painting is signed and dated lower right, 1934 and signed by the artist verso as well. Housed in an period oak frame, most likely original to the painting. Overall size framed is 22 by 18 inches. Provenance: Fletcher Gallery, Woodstock, New York.

Tschacbasov's paintings are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Art, the Jewish Museum, both in New York and Israel, the Corcoran Gallery as well as numerous other art institutions
