Description Paul Camille Guigou was born in Villars, Vaucluse, in 1834. Guigou was known for his landscapes, which explore the brilliant light and arid scenery of his native Provence in the south of France. He initially trained as a lawyer but began exhibiting paintings in Marseilles beginning in 1854. Guigou studied with Auguste Loubon, a noted Provence painter, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. After moving to Paris in 1862 he began to exhibit regularly at the Salon. Guigou exhibited with Jules Dupre, Corot and Millet. He attended Manet's gatherings at the Café Guerbois and enjoyed the company of Monet, Pissarro and Sisley.

In 1927 Guigou was given a retrospective at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris. His work is in several collections, including the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
