Description French Landscape
Paul Anderbouhr ( Paris, September 23, 1909 - Casablanca, July 10, 2006) is a French painter landscaper, he became interested in African scenes after the first trip to Morocco, of which he reports many studies. From 1949, the artist divided his time between Africa, notably Morocco where he died, in his native France.
Father of Lorraine and mother of Paris, Paul grew up in a modest family, between Place Dauphine where his mother worked as a laundress and the Bois de Boulogne where his grandfather was a gardener. In 1924, the young man entered as an apprentice furrier at Révillon Frères, then he practiced sewing at Lucien Lelong. He then began to paint and exhibit from 1934, exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne in 1937 and 1938.
He made his first solo exhibition in 1953 at the avant-garde Paul Durand-Ruel gallery. He collaborated with this prestigious Parisian institution until 1973 at the rate of one exhibition per year. Renowned for his Parisian scenes (Place de la Concorde, Sur le Pont des Arts) as much as for his Italian (Sur le Pont Vecchio), Spanish (L'Église du Lojen), or South Mediterranean landscapes, Paul Anderbouhr was the faithful student of the Post-Impressionist Pierre-Gaston Rigaud (1874-1939).
