Description Poskas draws inspiration from the rugged natural beauty of New England. His scenes of Monhegan, Maine and Stonington, Connecticut reveal a world that is hospitable and intimate. Poskas’ paintings are subtle explorations of beloved vistas, with keen interest devoted to the play of sunlight on a boat’s prow and the way the sky fades into the icy sea at dawn. Poskas paints with the familiarity and ease of an artist who has immersed himself in his subject matter and continues to find his muse in the personal and commonplace.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1969, Peter E. Poskas III is an influential contemporary artist working in the realist tradition. The artist received his B.A. from Oberlin College, Ohio, his B.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and continued his studies in Paris. His father, Peter Poskas II, shows with Spanierman Gallery, New York. The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT will be mounting an exhibition of works by both father and son in 2012.
