Description Philippe Cara Costea was born in 1925 in Merville​, France, he died on December 31, 2006. A painter and sculpture, he attended high school at Collège Stanislas, then entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere (in the workshop of Emile Othon Friesz). In 1947 at the age of 23, he went to Tahiti in the footsteps of Gauguin, with his friend from the Collège Stanislas, the painter Philippe Lejeune who became the founder of the School of Etampes. Cara Costea obtained a state scholarship in 1955. In addition to numerous exhibitions in France, he had many abroad: Lausanne, Tunis, at the New York Coliseum, San Francisco, Cologne, and Brussels. He was an associate of all the major French national shows: Autumn, French Artists, National des Beaux-Arts, Drawing, and Watercolor. The Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Library of France are some of the institutions in France and abroad that own his works
