Description Hilton's work shows an interest in "simplification, pattern, and the play of light," especially "the kind of edge that light gives to inanimate objects." Hilton taught for many years at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, and exhibited at "Artists for Victory" at the Met, at the MOMA, the Whitney, the Corcoran, The PAFA and the Westmoreland Museum of Art (where this work was exhibited in 1944). This work is quite simply one of Hilton's finest and a superb example of both modernism (notice the Cubist-like elements) and WPA.
