"Beneath As It Were" is an original encaustic painting by San Diego artist Shima Shanti. The Lay of the Land collection is inspired by the fleeting moment between time and space; a meeting place of land and sea where one gives way to the other. Layers of molten pigmented beeswax are painted on birch panel then each layers is fused with the flame of a torch. Shima's minimal aesthetic combined with earth-toned neutral, deep palette is a quiet whisper to the refined and understated luxury of her artwork. The wax patina and texture are storied, translucent and luminous. Unexpected levels of complexity surface.
